CHILLIWACK — The Orange Theory fitness studio in Chilliwack on Eagle Landing Parkway has been temporarily closed and could be closed longer after members received a notification about a temporary closure.

According to a information sent to Fraser Valley by a Chilliwack resident, the studio has been closed for approximately a week and a half. Orange Theory Fitness Chilliwack wrote the following on Instagram on Friday, September 15: “To our valued OTF Chilliwack members, due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be temporarily closing the Chilliwack location effective Saturday, September 16. All scheduled classes will continue running for September 15 with classes beyond that date being cancelled. For members, as we work through this temporary closure, we will provide an update as soon as we have more information. Please stay tuned to our social media pages and your email inbox as we will work towards providing an update early next week. Best In Health, OTF Chilliwack.”

Similar language was sent in an email to a Chilliwack member who shared it with Fraser Valley Today.

Orange Theory Fitness locations swept across Canada and the US before COVID-19 arrived in March 2020. The fitness industry was invariably impacted by pandemic restrictions ushered in by provincial health authorities across the country.

A location check on the Orange Theory website revealed the nearest location was in Langley. Chilliwack’s location at 8236 Eagle Landing Parkway, unit 502, is not listed on the website. Their phone number of 604-391-1310 was not answered Monday morning and went to an answering machine. There was no one inside the store during a reporter’s visit to the location last Wednesday, Sept. 20.

There is an abundance of fitness outlets for Chilliwack residents in what can be considered a crowded market. In addition to Trevor Linden’s Club 16, there are two municipal recreation centres, Chilliwack YMCA, Snap Fitness, Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Fit for Change, CrossFit Chilliwack, Mamba Cycle, and other mom-and-pop fitness outlets, some of which operate out of homes or garages.
