LANGLEY — Mounties in Langley say a 24-year-old woman has died after being struck by a car on 64 Street in Langley last week, and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the fatal accident.

In a statement Tuesday from the Langley RCMP detachment, Mounties in Langley were notified by BC Emergency Health Services on Thursday night, September 14 at 7:15 p.m. that a pedestrian had been hit by a car on 64 Avenue near 258 Street. Frontline officers responded to the scene where Township of Langley Fire Department and EHS were providing emergency first aid to the pedestrian, a 24-year-old woman.

Initial investigation indicated the driver of a 2018 BMW was travelling west on 64 Avenue. According to a statement from Mounties, the driver lost control of his vehicle just before 258 Street and began swerving, colliding with the pedestrian who had been walking westbound along the shoulder of 64 Avenue. Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Police said the driver and lone occupant of the BMW remained on scene. Although the cause of the collision is still being determined, alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.
