MISSION — The BC Conservation Officer Service is investigating after six people received minor injuries in coyote incidents in Mission Thursday morning, September 14.

According to a social media post from the provincial conservation agency, all six individuals were bitten on the leg by a coyote in four separate incidents between 5:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. In one incident, three workers in the same area were bitten by a coyote.

Conservation Officer Service personnel responded and patrolled the areas, which include Lark St., Starling Ave., River Pl. and Raven Ave. No coyotes were seen, BC COS reported.

It is unknown how many coyotes may be involved in these incidents. The COS has received other reports of aggressive coyotes in these areas. Conservation Officers are working with the City of Mission on public outreach efforts, including signage and patrols.

The COS urges people to take precautions in case of coyote encounters, including leashing pets, considering keeping cats indoors, travelling in groups and carrying bear spray. For additional safety and conflict reduction tips, please visit WildSafeBC.

“The COS also cannot stress enough the importance of not feeding dangerous wildlife and will take enforcement action as warranted,” COS wrote in a statement.

The COS will continue to monitor coyote activity and will respond as necessary to ensure public safety. Coyote conflicts and the unlawful feeding of dangerous wildlife can be reported to the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
