MISSION — Mission RCMP were dispatched for a reported shooting Monday afternoon in north Mission.

According to South Fraser News Services reporter Curtis Kreklau, who attended the scene and monitored scanner traffic, Mission RCMP, Mission Fire Rescue Service and BC Ambulance Service were dispatched to reports of a shooting at Laminman Avenue and Cedar Street in north Mission.

Emergency personnel administered CPR on the victim at the scene. The victim was transferred to an air ambulance at a nearby school field, Albert McMahon Elementary, and airlifted to hospital.

According to Kreklau, pylons presumably covering bullet shell casings could be seen all across the road in front of a residence and just steps away from a busy corner, pizza restaurant and gas station.

Mounties say the shooting appears to be targeted, according to a published report in the Mission City Record.

Within 15 minutes of the shooting call, Kreklau said, a vehicle fire was reported nearby at Doyle Street and Richards Avenue. Authorities discovered a minivan fully engulfed in flames; the fire reportedly spread to nearby dry bushes as well.

The Lower Mainland Forensic Identification Section was deployed to the area of the shooting and the Mission RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating the incident.
