Chilliwack businessman funds 7 new cystoscopes for Chilliwack General Hospital
CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Hospital Foundation announced Tuesday (August 1) that Chilliwack businessman John O’Connor has funded the purchase of seven new cystoscopes at Chilliwack General Hospital.
“The Chilliwack Hospital Foundation wishes to thank John O’Connor, and each of our generous donors, for assisting us in funding new equipment for the hospital,” CHF said in its news release. “Every dollar donated makes a world of difference to the many patients our hospital services.”
According to a news release from the non-profit organization, cystoscopes are used to obtain a visual picture of the bladder and urethra to look for any abnormalities. Cystoscopies help with the diagnoses and treatment of cancers. In fact, the health care foundation says a cystoscopy is the only way that bladder cancer can be properly diagnosed. The hospital currently performs about 42 cystoscopies per week.
CHF says there are several ways to help support their efforts, including its 500 Club where donors commit to donating $1,000 a year for five years. All funds will be used to purchase new and updated equipment for Chilliwack General Hospital. Donors are also invited to give in honour or memory of a loved one, a special person or a family member.
