POPKUM — Popkum and Rosedale residents will have to wait just a little longer before they get their London fog, venti cold brew, or frappuccino drinks.

The opening of the Popkum Starbucks at 52964 Yale Road has been delayed until the end of September, according to Starbucks manager Semi Lee, who works in the Chilliwack area.

Starbucks had been projected to open in August, but it’s been pushed back to the end of September. Lee did confirm via Facebook this past week that Starbucks is still hiring for baristas at the Popkum location.

Dairy Queen is also slated to occupy the commercial plaza under construction. Its opening date is unknown.

There are other businesses coming to the plaza. According to documents attached to the Fraser Valley Regional District board meeting held on April 27, the developer of the property has now labeled the four additional businesses as health, phone, dental and grocery.

The commercial development will be located just north of Petro Canada, which contains Subway and Popkum Liquor Store. It’s also across the intersection from the Esso gas station, Tim Hortons, Agency Liquor Store, and Barcelos Flame Grilled Chicken at the Highway 9 and Yale Road roundabout.

The addition of Dairy Queen means it will be the third of its kind in the greater Chilliwack area, with the other two Dairy Queens located on Young Road and Vedder Road in Chilliwack, which are heavily traveled roads like Highway 9.
