Mountain Institution staff seize syringes, needles and weapons during lockdown
AGASSIZ — Following what appears to be a seven-day lockdown that involved a subsequent search at Mountain Institution west of Agassiz, Correctional Service Canada says it has removed a host of contraband and unauthorized items at the medium-security federal prison.
In a news release from CSC Tuesday (June 27), authorities say a lockdown put in place on Tuesday, June 20 has ended and an exceptional search has been completed.
Correctional staff seized syringes and needles, handmade drug paraphernalia, and handmade weapons.
The prison has resumed its normal operations and visits have resumed.
