Highway 1 closed westbound in Abbotsford by truck crash

UPDATE: 1:00 p.m. — Abbotsford Police report Highway 1 at the No. 3 Road overpass has reopened to westbound traffic.

UPDATE: 11:30 a.m. — According to a tweet from the Ministry of Transportation, the clean-up effort is well underway at the scene of Monday morning’s crash along Highway 1 at the Number 3 Road overpass. Staff are assessing the damage and the effort to remove the vehicle from the scene is underway. This is no time set for the highway to reopen. However, the overpass was reopened earlier in the morning.

UPDATE: 7:30 a.m. — Abbotsford police report the Number 3 Road overpass has been reopened to traffic in both directions.

ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford police say a large transport truck has collided with an overpass in Abbotsford, closing the westbound lane of Highway #1 at the Number 3 Road exit.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m., just as the rush hour was beginning.

A large fire ensued as the truck and its load came to a stop.

The Number 3 Road overpass has been closed in each direction while emergency crews tend to the scene. The overpass will not be opened until it can be inspected and its integrity can be confirmed.

Somehow, the driver of the truck was not injured in the crash.
