AGASSIZ — A lead foot can cost an arm and a leg and then some.

A Fraser Valley motorist learned that lesson the hard way after being clocked at over 100 kilometres an hour in a posted 50-km/hr zone near the Agassiz RCMP detachment, and Mounties were there at the right time to impound the unwise driver’s vehicle.

On Tuesday evening, May 9, at 10:30 p.m., an Agassiz RCMP member was conducting traffic enforcement on a section of the Lougheed Highway that runs in front of the Agassiz RCMP Community Policing office. According to Sgt. Mike Sargent of the Agassiz RCMP detachment, the officer observed a vehicle travelling eastbound along the highway at a high rate of speed. The speeding vehicle was clocked in excess of 100 km/hr in the clearly marked 50-km/hr posted speed limit stretch of the road. As a result, the driver was issued a ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

“Police would like to remind the public to be mindful of posted speed limits and consider the safety of those residing in our local communities and travelling along our roadways,” said Sgt. Sargent.
