CHILLIWACK — Students at Chilliwack Secondary School were reportedly evacuated earlier today after a sprinkler head failed and released, prompting a fire alarm activation and a response from the Chilliwack Fire Department.

Social media users reported Tuesday morning (May 9) that a water pipe burst at the school, resulting in the school’s fire alarm activation.

Allan Van Tassel, director of facilities and transportation for the Chilliwack School District, advised in an email that there were two separate incidents at the school. The fire alarm was related to a sprinkler head that failed and released.

Chilliwack firefighters responded, as did two ambulances from B.C. Emergency Health Services. However, the presence of the two ambulances was related to a separate student incident that required medical attention.
