Chilliwack Hospice hosting UFV professor for talk on fitness, osteoarthritis May 11
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Hospice Society will host Dr. Gillian Hatfield, director and associate professor for kinesiology in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Fraser Valley, for an educational presentation on “keeping active when you have osteoarthritis or lower back pain” this Thursday, May 11 beginning at 10 a.m.
Dr. Hatfield graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in physiotherapy in 2007. She worked clinically for two years in private practice while completing a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Research. Following her MSc degree, Gillian obtained a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Dalhousie University in 2013, where her research focused on developing prediction models for knee osteoarthritis progression based on gait biomechanics. She began working at the University of the Fraser Valley full-time in 2016.
The presentation will begin shortly after the society’s supportive walking group starts at 9:30 a.m. outside the Chilliwack Hospice Society office at 7112 Vedder Road. Newcomers are always welcome; however, participation in the walking group is not required to attend the presentation by Dr. Hatfield.
The talk will last approximately one hour.
