CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP Superintendent Davy Lee told Chilliwack City Council members at their meeting on Tuesday that the man allegedly behind BB gun damage to several Chilliwack businesses earlier this year and late last year won’t have a court appearance until January 2024.

During a presentation on quarterly crime statistics to council members Tuesday afternoon (May 2), Supt. Lee credited the Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement in assisting the RCMP in tracking down the suspect.

“Through our collaborative partnership with the BIA, we were able to advance our investigation into the BB gun incidents that occurred in the downtown core,” Supt. Lee said.

Supt. Lee said this led to arrest of a 40-year-old man, Rhodey Roberge of Chilliwack.

“We have 12 files involving him, [of which] seven are mischief,” Supt. Lee said. “Some of the files were approved for mischief charges by the Crown. These took place between December [2022] and January of this year.”

Roberge’s next court appearance isn’t until January 2, 2024, Supt. Lee told councillors. Roberge is not in custody.

“We continue to monitor him in the community in case he breaches those conditions,” Supt. Lee said.

Roberge was arrested back on January 17 after an incident involving BB gun damage to a business in the 8800 block of Young Road. Police identified Roberge based on video evidence. He faces seven charges consisting of two counts of mischief to property over $5,000, and five counts of mischief to property under $5,000, according to court records online.
