Fire breaks out at Goodies Recycling in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — A fire has broken out at Goodies Recycling at 8150 Aitken Road in Chilliwack, prompting a response of several fire engines on Tuesday afternoon (May 2) in an industrial area of town.

Chilliwack firefighters were first paged at 3:16 p.m. for smoke coming from the recycling facility.

Engines 1, 4, 1-2, and at least 20 firefighters responded to a report of metal piles of recycling burning.

At the scene firefighters attacked the metal recycling facility fire with two water hoses at 3:35 p.m. Firefighters arrived well before 3:35 p.m.

Engine 1-2 arrived on scene at 3:40 p.m. RCMP units arrived shortly thereafter.

Chilliwack firefighters continued to attack the fire with multiple backup units responding.

The fire was fully extinguished by 4:49 p.m.

Command was terminated at 5:15 p.m.

It is unknown if there were any firefighter or civilian injuries.
