City of Chilliwack gears up for winter

CHILLIWACK — As a cold spell lingers in Chilliwack this week, the City of Chilliwack has been preparing for the arrival of Old Man Winter long before whiteout conditions wreak havoc on local roads.

The City posted on its Facebook page earlier this week that snowplowable reflectors have been installed on six primary roads in Chilliwack as a means of providing safe delineation to drivers during adverse, difficult weather conditions.

The City wrote on its website that the installations involve milling out narrow strips of asphalt and installing the casting with epoxy, thereby enabling snow plows to successfully glide over the reflectors while shielding them from damage.

The six installation locations include:

• Ryder Lake Road (Huston to Elk View)
• Ryder Lake Road (Ross to Elk View)
• Chilliwack Central Road (Annis to Ford)
• Upper Prairie Road (Chilliwack Central to Yale)
• Prairie Central Road (Upper Prairie to Annis)
• Elk View Road (Payne to Ryder Lake)

In the past couple weeks, public works crews have been out installing snow fences to help reduce blowing snow this winter. It also helps minimize snow drifts from piling up on roads. One of the primary locations for these snow fences is the east side of Evans Road between Stevenson Road and Wells Road, on a large parcel of farmland.
