CHILLIWACK — More rain is headed for the Fraser Valley this weekend, with the worst of it is likely to hit tomorrow (Oct. 4).

In a special weather statement, Environment Canada says an atmospheric river with strong winds, will dump heavy rain on parts of the south coast tonight and Friday.

Rain is expected to develop this morning and intensify tonight. The heavy rain should begin to taper off to showers late Friday. Total rainfall amounts are expected to reach between 30 and 60 mm.

Winds may gust up to 60 km/h before they begin to let up late Friday.

Environment Canada says this system is expected to be as strong as the system that crossed over the Fraser Valley last weekend.

The same system is expected to deliver up to 20 cm of snow along mountain highways east of the Fraser Valley. The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt along the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna could see up to 20 cm of snow. Highway 3, from Hope to Princeton, is also expected to receive similar snowfall totals. The snow is expected to begin falling this afternoon and continue through Friday.
