CHILLIWACK — Fireworks may have been sporadically set off throughout Chilliwack earlier this week, but the City of Chilliwack and its bylaw officers were successful in resolving three complaints that it received about fireworks on Halloween Night Monday (Oct. 31).

According to Jamie Leggatt, director of communications for the City of Chilliwack, complaints logged with the city numbered less than a handful.

“In terms of fireworks last night, our Bylaw Department received three (3) complaints about fireworks,” Leggatt said. “Staff attended those three events and obtained compliance without fines.”

Similarly, the Chilliwack Fire Department reports that it did not receive any fireworks-related calls Monday night.

Leggatt said the city’s website advises residents to contact the RCMP’s non-emergency number (604-792-4611) to report fireworks after hours.

“Our webpage encourages residents to call the RCMP’s non-emergency number to report fireworks after hours,” Leggatt said in an email.

Fireworks could be heard continuously along the Rotary Vedder Trail at the southern end of Peach Road Monday night between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., before ceasing shortly thereafter.

Chilliwack RCMP has not released an overview of its Halloween-related police activity for Monday night. Debbie Sargent, an RCMP communications strategist, said she would pass along information once it was processed from RCMP analysts.
