Heavy rain expected Sunday in the Fraser Valley
CHILLIWACK — Rain moved into the Fraser Valley overnight and is expected to hang over the region through the day.
Environment Canada issued a heavy rainfall warning for the area Saturday. It updated the warning this morning (Oct. 30), reducing the amount of expected rain to 50 mm of rain over the course of the day and the evening.
Gusty winds are expected to accompany the rain today. Gusts of up to 40 or 50 kph are predicted for the Fraser Valley, with the winds increasing as you move west.
The City of Chilliwack is asking residents to clear catch basins in front of their homes, to allow for rainwater to be efficiently taken away from roadways. Fallen leaves can quickly plug catch basins and lead to localized flooding. If you are unsure of your nearest catch basin, you can view their locations on the City of Chilliwack website.
