CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada is predicting a wet weekend throughout the Fraser Valley. It’s issued a special weather statement warning of heavy rain and strong winds.

Canada’s national weather agency says an atmospheric river system is setting up over the province’s south coast this weekend. It will lead to periods of rain that will gradually intensify through the event. The stream of rain will be sliding from the north to the south as it crosses over the region.

While heavy rain is expected late this afternoon (Oct. 29) for western Vancouver Island, heavy rainfall won’t arrive in the Fraser Valley until Sunday afternoon.

Rain isn’t the only meterological event expected with the system. In addition, strong winds are also expected to accompany the rain.

The mild temperatures will elevate snow levels and precipitation along the highway passes will fall as rain.
