“I am so humbled and grateful for the support I received in this election,” Kloot said Sunday following the win in which he received 9,482 votes and a second-place finish behind Councillor Jason Lum. “As I look at the results, I can’t help but think how fortunate city hall is to have a solid team re-elected and elected to continue the momentum of moving our city forward in a positive way. I look forward to representing Chilliwack for the next 4 years as one of your city councillors.”

In light of several first-time candidates who had active, vibrant campaigns but were not successful, Kloot said they and all other council candidates had the right priorities in place before they ran.

“My respect and thanks goes to each person who stepped forward and let their name stand on the ballot. It’s never easy, and there’s no guaranteed outcome. Yet, each person does it with the best interests of this community in mind,” Kloot said.

Jeff Shields, a chartered accountant who finished fifth out of six candidates, also gave thanks to the Chilliwack community for returning him to public office.

“What a weekend! Thank you to everyone that supported me throughout this campaign with all your words of encouragement and of course with your vote,” Shields wrote Monday morning (Oct. 17). “A special thank you to my wonderful daughter Megan who negotiated me through all this social media. She is such a star! I’m so happy to have our great team back and welcome aboard Nicole! Now we get back to work!”
