Federal government to pump over $900K into improving Othello Road east of Hope; Coquihalla Highway to be repaired by this fall
HOPE — The Othello area east of Hope, home to a vicinity that includes the famous Othello Tunnels at Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park, incurred significant damage following the unprecedented atmospheric river events of November 2021.
The federal government hopes to remediate a primary arterial through the Othello area with a $927,631 cash infusion towards improving green infrastructure, it announced in a news release this week (Aug. 22).
Public works improvements to Othello feature roadway integrity and safety improvements that should improve access to and from Hope, including two-lane traffic capacity on Othello Road.
While the feds will contribute their share, the B.C. government is expected to pitch in $742,105. An additional $185,527 will come from local sources.
