Fires break out near Greendrop Lake and east of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park

CHILLIWACK — The B.C. Wildfire Service is reporting an outbreak of small but active fires near Greendrop Lake, and in an area east of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park.

According to the B.C. Wildfire Service website, as of 1 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 25), there were two fires in close proximity to Greendrop Lake, which is north of Lindeman Lake, a popular hiking destination for many Chilliwack and Fraser Valley hikers and some campers, and three blazes east of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park.

Fire V11887 is designated Greendrop Lake No. 1, caused by lightning, and is under control and is 0.3 hectare. Fire V11890 is designated as located at Greendrop Lake No. 2 and is 0.1 hectare. Both fires began Tuesday (Aug. 23) and are considered under control.

There are several fires about six kilometres east of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park, including Fire V11912 at Thompson Peak No. 1, caused by lightning, and 0.01 hectare in size. It is considered out of control.
