Hope RCMP seek driver in hit and run

HOPE – Hope RCMP are looking to locate the driver of a pickup truck who hit a cyclist over the Canada Day long weekend and later fled the scene.

Three local youths were riding their bicycles on Saturday (Jul. 2) at approximately 5 p.m. near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Kawkawa Lake Road when one of the youths was struck by a vehicle described as an older model green pickup truck. The vehicle had a different coloured tailgate. The injured youth was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle initially stopped to check on the condition of the youth, briefly spoke with the injured party, and then left the scene without providing information.

Police hope to speak to the driver of the vehicle and are currently canvassing the area of 6th Avenue and Kawkawa Lake Road to obtain video evidence.

People who may have been in the area during the afternoon or evening, or who might have dashcam video, are asked to contact Hope RCMP under file 2022-23800 and speak with Constable Sahil Bansi at 604-869-7750. People can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
