BC RCMP spokesperson confirms fatality in aviation incident Monday

CHILLIWACK – A BC RCMP spokesperson has now confirmed the death of a male in connection with Monday’s mid-air collision.

According to a statement from B.C. RCMP spokesperson Staff Sergeant Kris Clark from E Division headquarters, members of the Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of a mid-air collision between two planes that occurred in the Chilliwack area at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Monday, August 3.

S/Sgt. Clark says Chilliwack RCMP, the Lower Mainland District Police Dog Services (LMD IPDS), Chilliwack Fire Department and Chilliwack Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel responded to the scene and began working to locate the area where one of the planes went down.

A small plane was located in a pond near Industrial Access Road in Chilliwack. The second plane was able to make it back safely to the airport, adding that the occupants did not sustain injuries.
