LANGLEY — B.C.’s transportation ministry is looking to cut down a big traffic bottleneck in the region with the replacement of the CPKC rail overpass on Highway 1, near Langley.

The Metro Vancouver-based partnership, Norland Kingston General, has been contracted for $74.2 million to replace the existing structure between 216th and 264th Street as part of the ongoing Fraser Valley Highway 1 widening project.

The new overpass will increase commercial vehicle clearance from 4.4 to 5.2 metres and add more lanes, including new high-occupancy vehicle lanes in both directions.

“The location has been the site of previous overpass crashes, and the new height clearance will improve safety and reduce the likelihood of damage to the structure,” says the Ministry.
