UPDATE: Wildfire between Hope and Lytton grows to 40 hectares as BCWS deploys 2 helicopters

UPDATE: The 2.5-hectare fire that broke out earlier today has since grown to 40 hectares as of 5:15 p.m., according to the BC Wildfire Service.

FRASER CANYON – An out of control wildfire has ignited in the Fraser Canyon area near Highway 1 between Hope and Lytton.

According to the BC Wildfire Service dashboard, the fire was reported Thursday morning, Apr. 23.

BCWS says It is located south of Hell’s Gate and east of the Trans Canada Highway in the Fraser Zone of the Coastal Fire Centre.

BCWS says it is responding with initial attack crews, response officers, a water tender and two helicopters..

This fire is suspected to be human caused.

As of Thursday at 5:55 p.m., it is now 40 hectares.
