Chilliwack RCMP deal with string of break and enters, stolen vehicles the past week

A vehicle was broken into on Vedder Mountain Road and a garage door opener was used to gain access to the adjacent home. A mountain bike and personal accessories were stolen.

In another incident, an unknown suspect broke into a property on South Sumas Road and stole a small motorcycle and power tools.

Police received a report of a was received of a break and enter in progress at a bakery on Young Road. Officers located the suspect nearby and arrested him. The investigation determined money was stolen, and police linked the suspect to multiple nearby property crimes, including a vehicle break-in and damage to a smoke shop that had occurred within a few hours prior. The suspect was held for court.

Officers responded to a break and enter in progress at a vacant building on Mary Street. Two men were arrested on the property with stolen items. Both were later released on paperwork to attend court at a later time.

Stolen vehicles

Police attended a report of a male acting suspiciously behind the wheel of a vehicle on Sheffield Way in Sardis. Officers soon learned the vehicle had been reported stolen. The man in the driver’s seat was arrested and observed to be exhibiting signs of intoxication. An impaired driving investigation confirmed what officers suspected. He was served with an Immediate Roadside prohibition and will be appearing in court at a later time for charges relating to the stolen vehicle.

A vehicle was stolen from a driveway on Angus Drive (near Little Mountain Elementary), struck another parked vehicle, and fled. The vehicle was recovered the next day. The investigation continues.

A vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of grocery store on Luckakuck Way after the keys were left inside while the owner went into the store.

A vehicle was stolen from Thomas Road (near G.W. Graham Road) and later found burned in another jurisdiction. All keys were accounted for, indicating the vehicle was likely started through ignition tampering.

A vehicle on Yale Road was taken overnight. Keys were left in the vehicle which made it very easy for the suspects to make a quick getaway.

“Residents are again reminded to lock vehicles, never leave keys inside, secure garage door openers, and report suspicious activity immediately. These simple steps significantly reduce property crime opportunities,” Cpl. Kiener said.
