Chilliwack Fire Dept. dispatched for structure fire east of Vedder/Britton Thursday night

CHILLIWACK — At least seven fire engines from the Chilliwack Fire Department were dispatched to the 46000 block of Silver Avenue, approximately 700 metres east of Vedder Road and Britton Avenue, Thursday night for a structure fire in a single-family neighbourhood in Chilliwack.

Firefighters were called to the area at around 8:30 p.m. The call was later upgraded to a second alarm as the sound of multiple emergency sirens reverberated throughout Sardis.

At the scene of the fire, smoke could be seen billowing from the apex of the home, possibly along the roof line, as the sound of a fire alarm emanated from the home.

A ladder truck was utilized to attack the fire from an aerial angle.

Chilliwack RCMP dispatched at least three cruisers to the area.

Dozens of neighbours of all ages congregated outside in the brisk 3 degree weather to observe the smoke and activities firefighters undertook to suppress the fire. There were at least 20 firefighters present on Silver Avenue.

A rehabilitation unit arrived on scene at 9 p.m. as firefighters continued to attack the fire.

It did not appear that the fire spread to neighbouring homes. The front of the home in question did not appear to be charred or fully engulfed in flames.

According to a Facebook commenter named Danika, everyone was able to get out of the home unharmed.

The fire was reportedly extinguished by 9:47 p.m. Fire crews are now in cleanup mode at 9:47 p.m.
