Abbotsford seeks resident input on swimming pool strategy

ABBOTSFORD — The City of Abbotsford is asking residents to dive into a new aquatics services strategy for the future.

Staff are currently conducting a review and analysis of the City’s aquatic services and facilities to understand how community needs could change over the next 30 years.

“A recently completed Stage 2 Exploring Options report highlights that current aquatic services are very well used and highly valued by the community but are operating at, or beyond, capacity,” said the City in a release.

“The report also notes that all existing facilities are aging and are nearing the end of their lifespans, requiring substantial investments to remain operational.”

Some of the City’s options include:

  • A 50-metre long “Training Pool” at MSA Park to accommodate swim clubs, local and regional swimming events, and other fitness swimming activities.
  • A “Community Pool” to replace the one at Matsqui Recreation Centre.
  • A “Neighbourhood Pool” at Abbotsford Recreation Centre, with exact details based on demand and population growth when the time comes.

Residents are invited to share their input online or in person at a date yet to be decided.

The survey is set to close on November 24. The draft strategy will be shared with Abbotsford City Council for approval in early 2026.
