CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack is inviting residents to a safety-minded doubleheader this weekend – Household Hazardous Waste Day and the annual Safety Fair.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 4), folks are encouraged to drop off their hazardous waste, including oil, oil filters and antifreeze, for free at the Operations Centre parking lot next to Chilliwack Heritage Park.

Proof of residency will be required, and only household waste will be accepted. Businesses and commercial entities handling hazardous waste are asked to contact a dedicated waste collection company.

Once you’ve handled the dangerous material, the City then urges families to join the Safety Fair at Home Depot for its 12th year in Chilliwack.

“Several community safety partners will have their own station to engage with members of the public,” said the City.

“All ages are welcome! Many vendors will have games, treats and information on the many ways to be safe.”

Participants include the local RCMP, Fire Department, City Bylaw Enforcement and more. Kids can also get hands-on at a Craft Zone hosted by Home Depot.

The event is set to run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the same day. More information is available online through the City’s website.
