Bear Creek wildfire under control, evacuation alert recalled

HARRISON LAKE — After a week of hard work by ground crews and firefighting resources, the 224-hectare Bear Creek wildfire is now under control.

As a result, BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has recommended that the evacuation alert for the North Cascade Bay Area be rescinded.

Harrison East FSR has been opened to the public, and all previous road closures, including the Kookipi Forest Service Road in the Nahatlatch Valley, have been lifted.

Drivers are advised to remain vigilant, as danger trees and falling rocks continue to pose hazards along the FSR. The BCWS also continues to ask residents and boaters to stay away from areas where air tankers and helicopters collect water as firefighting efforts start to wrap up.
