CHILLIWACK — The Valley Huskers will have something to prove in front of their home fans this weekend as they look for their first win of the young season.

After opening the season in week 2 with a 45-24 loss to the Westside Rebels, the Huskers (0-3) have been within striking distance in two close battles, only to come up short in a 25-19 loss to the Langley Rams, followed by an 18-13 setback against the Vancouver Island Raiders on Saturday, August 9.

Huskers quarterback Key’Shaun Dorsey made his debut in week 2 by completing 13 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns, while backup Rogan Vergata threw another in the season opener.

In the most recent road game in Nanaimo against the VI Raiders, the Huskers were tied at halftime but saw their fortunes dim as Raiders QB Brayden Jupe threw for 265 yards.

The Huskers played a good game but had difficulties protecting the quarterback. With Dorsey under continued pressure, they turned to the run game and gathered 200 rushing yards led by Jawad Harb and his game-high 127 yards. He also leaked out of the backfield for a 16-yard touchdown reception.

The Huskers hope to avenge those losses when they open at home this Saturday, August 16 against the Kamloops Broncos (0-3). Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Exhibition Field.
