G.W. Graham dominates in a 38-13 exhibition win over St. Thomas More Collegiate at Exhibition Stadium

CHILLIWACK — The G.W. Graham senior varsity football team took care of business on all fronts before a packed homecoming crowd of over 1,500 Friday night at Exhibition Stadium.

G.W. Graham quarterback Lucas Feaver threw for 232 yards on 17-of-29 passing and a score, and running back Maleky Colgiu amassed 54 rushing yards and two touchdowns, as the top-ranked Grizzlies knocked off St. Thomas More 38-13 in its final exhibition match in AAA action Friday.

The undefeated Grizzlies (4-0) parlayed a fierce defence into multiple stops and eventually, good field position for its prolific offence.

The Knights took over deep in their own territory after G.W., Graham couldn’t score on an early drive, but Grizzlies defensive end Vincent Branauer secured a two-point safety by tackling a defender in the end zone.

Linebacker Riley Ashley led the stingy defence with 5 solo tackles, and 3 helpers, while Branauer added 5 more tackles (3 tackles for a loss and a sack).

“Any time a team can hold an opponent to two first downs in the first half, and then get 18 different players to register a tackle in the game, you will have an extremely proud defensive coordinator. These boys are fighting hard for playing time,” defensive coordinator Ian Parks said.

The Grizzlies offense showed ample production from a number of key performers. In addition to QB Feaver’s fabulous feats, QB Aiden Hewitt was 4-of-6 passing for 77 yards and 1 TD. Running back Maleky Colgiu racked up 24 yards receiving and another TD. Yapo Conteh had 32 yards rushing on 5 carries and 1 TD.

Tyson Orregaard led the air attack with 9 receptions for 125 yards, and Brayden Macdonald had 5 catches for 67 yards and a TD. Carter Dallas added 3 catches for 57 yards, and Christian Beck hauled in 3 catches for 56 yards.

Special teams were a big part of this game, Parks said, as Brayden Fraser had a fumble recovery on a Josh Seo punt. Meanwhile, Owen Lal recovered a Seo onside kick in the second half to give the Grizzlies great field position into their next offensive series. Seo was 3-for- 3 on PATs, and kicked a 26-yard field goal as well.

G.W. Graham coach Luke Acheson characterized the win as an equally balanced attack on all fronts.

“It was great complimentary football,” Coach Acheson said. “All three aspects of the game were needed to get this win against a tough, talented opponent.”

The 4-0 Grizzlies face the Vancouver College Fighting Irish this Saturday (Oct. 1) at 1:30 p.m. for its first regular season game.
