AbbyPD apprehend man linked to reports of ‘indecent act’

ABBOTSFORD — A 31-year-old male has been apprehended by authorities after police in Abbotsford received reports of an indecent act in progress Friday evening near a shopping centre.

According to a brief statement from police posted to social media, a significant police presence was deployed to the 2300 block of Whatcom Road in Abbotsford Friday night after authorities were advised shortly after 6 p.m. of an indecent act currently happening.

Police did not disclose what the lewd or lascivious act was.

On arrival, police located a 31-year-old male suspect who tried to flee the scene on foot. The suspect was apprehended and is currently in police custody as of Friday night.

Police say there is no ongoing risk to public safety.

Stephanie Fatkin wrote on Facebook Friday evening that she witnessed 10 cop cars with lights and sirens activated heading toward Whatcom Road around the time of the police deployment.

The 2300 block of Whatcom Road is home to a shopping centre, also known as Sumas Mountain Village, that houses Save-On-Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, and both TD Bank and Royal Bank of Canada.
