Chilliwack schools placed in hold-and-secure Friday morning
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack students were kept in their buildings this morning (Apr. 11) as officials carried out a hold-and-secure procedure at Chilliwack Secondary School and Chilliwack Middle School.
In an email sent out to parents by Chilliwack Secondary, the move was placed at about 10 a.m. due to an unspecified neighbourhood incident not involving either building.
“Staff and students conducted themselves very well,” wrote staff. “Everyone was safe and sound.”
A hold-and-secure is an emergency procedure to protect occupants from a violent threat near the property. It’s a softer response than a lockdown, which is triggered by more immediate threats.
