CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP and Chilliwack Fire Department investigators appear to have up to five possible cases of arson on their plate in the past 24 hours.

According to a news release from Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson just after noon today (Sept. 13), the Chilliwack Fire Department responded to five minor but suspicious fires in various locations, all of which occurred on the north side of Chilliwack.

The locations include the 45000 block of Spadina Avenue (Meadow Rose Society), 8700 block of Young Road near the Alliance Church, 8800 block of Nowell Street near the ICBC claims centre, 8700 block of Willow Drive east of ICBC, and the 46000 block of Norrish Avenue, northeast of ICBC.

The fires occurred between the hours of 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 and 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, Wilson said.

“All of these fires were quite minor in nature, however if it weren’t for the quick actions of fire crews, significant property damage could have occurred,” Wilson said. “These fires appear to be deliberately set and are under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Officials and the RCMP.”

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.Anyone with information about these fires is asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.chilliwackcrimestoppers.ca
