CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Department responded Monday night, Sept. 12 to a report of a fire in the rear building component of Meadow Rose Family Help Center Society, a non-profit charity in downtown Chilliwack near Main Street and Spadina Avenue, close to the Chilliwack Museum and Archives.

Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson of the Chilliwack Fire Department said the fire is suspicious is nature and is still under investigation. Firefighters were first dispatched to the location for a small fire burning on the outside of the building. The building sustained very minor damage to the interior and exterior, Wilson said.

The blaze marks at least the seventh fire in Chilliwack since August 20.

Meadow Rose Society posted on social media that it would be closed Tuesday, Sept. 13; it thanked the Chilliwack Fire Department for extinguishing the fire as well as the person who reported the fire so quickly.

“Due to a fire, of unknown cause, that entered our storage room from the outside and created extensive smoke damage, we will be closed today,” Meadow Rose Society posted on social media. “We will update regarding opening on Wednesday. We’d like to thank whomever it was who was quick to report it before it got any worse and for all the work the fire department did after the fire was out.”

Meadow Rose Society is a non-profit charity that helps families who have children 3 and under, and are in financial crisis, by supplying them with necessary children’s needs. Their website is www.meadowrosesociety.com.
