CHILLIWACK — The Fraser Valley Regional District and the District of Hope have issued evacuation orders for 12 properties in the Hunter Creek and Laidlaw areas, the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) announced Sunday evening at 5:34 p.m.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for Floods and properties east of Highway 1 in Laidlaw, BCWS said on social media Sunday evening.

The affected properties required to evacuate include Hunter Creek Road and Trans-Canada Highway in the Hunter Creek and Laidlaw area.

Members of Hope RCMP and other applicable agencies will be expediting this evacuation order.

Due to an accident, BCWS said Highway 1 has been closed eastbound between Annis Road (Exit 129) and Flood Hope Road (Exit 168).

The Flood Falls Trail fire is estimated at 459 hectares, but that was last updated Sunday at 5:16 p.m. It began Thursday night, and grew to 30 hectares by Friday morning, before expanding to 459 hectares by midday Sunday.

BCWS says additional road closures may be needed to ensure public and responder safety as falling debris spreads the fire downslope towards.
