B.C. government to cut carbon tax after Liberal government removes consumer federal carbon price
VICTORIA — B.C. Premier David Eby has announced that the Province is following suit on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s move to end consumer carbon pricing.
In a statement Friday afternoon (Mar. 14), Eby said this comes as part of a provincial commitment last year to get rid of the carbon tax as soon as the feds remove the national carbon tax requirement.
“As the federal government removes the requirement that B.C. have a carbon tax in place, we will act quickly so the people of British Columbia don’t feel the pinch when filling their cars or heating their homes,” wrote Eby.
The Province will also be preparing laws to cut the scheduled carbon tax increase of $15/tonne that would have occurred on April 1st.
