Local poets set to take the stage at downtown Abbotsford
ABBOTSFORD — Voices from diverse, underrepresented groups are being amplified at a spoken poetry event in downtown Abbotsford later this February.
Diverse VOICES will feature poets and troubadours with Indigenous, Black and People of Colour (IBPOC) backgrounds– a lineup inspired by the organizer’s own life with the written word.
Abbotsford-born and raised Melissa Ly is an Asian woman who has gone through disability.
“It’s through these intersections of my identity that I’ve faced hardship and discrimination,” said Ly. “But I found that poetry and journaling [helped me] make sense of my own lived experiences.”
