CHILLIWACK — A witness says Chilliwack RCMP members were called to the Little Mountain area of Chilliwack early Thursday morning after a vehicle wound up in a ditch.

According to a Chilliwack resident who drove through the area, a smaller four-door vehicle landed in a ditch on Yale Road near Hillcrest Drive, about four kilometers east-northeast of downtown Chilliwack.

A witness told Fraser Valley Today that the vehicle was unoccupied when she drove through the area, but did see what appeared to be a male and female walking away from the area.

“I turned around to make sure everyone was ok,” the witness said. “No one was in the vehicle. I called 9-1-1 as the accident occurred within five minutes before I arrived. Multiple RCMP are currently on scene.”

The vehicle resembled a Chevrolet Spark-type subcompact in the picture provided by the witness.

The witness said the male and female who were seen walking away from the scene appeared to be highly intoxicated.

The Chilliwack resident said she spoke with a tow operator who reportedly recovered the vehicle from the ditch.

“Yeah, I think they were detained when the RCMP showed up,” she said. “They had one officer stop where the two people were. I talked with the tow operator that went and recovered the car, as I’m good friends with him, and he said they were getting arrested.”

RCMP have not confirmed whether impairment was officially involved. Fraser Valley Today has reached out to an RCMP spokesperson for comment.
