Chilliwack art show highlights human nature, self-love

CHILLIWACK — An upcoming exhibit at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre hopes to promote positivity by juxtaposing everyday people with natural views.

Human/Nature is the latest collection to be presented by the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association (CVAA) and O’Connor Group Art Gallery. The exhibit features work by B.C.-based painter and sculptor Josh Henrie, whose work typically uses vivid colours and unchiseled stone to show raw form “without judgment”.

“This journey in my art is showing the similarities of this concept towards humans and birds,” said Henrie in a news release. “If we can love the differences of birds, then why can’t we do that in our own race?”

Henrie added that his art style has been evolving after creating for several years. Now, he aims to inject as much life and positivity into his work.

“My art will showcase the beauty of the human form from all backgrounds […] How beautiful we can be if we only look, embrace and understand.”

Human/Nature is set to run from February 5 to March 8. An opening reception will be held on February 15 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
