ABBOTSFORD — Proactive policing can put repeat offenders back behind bars where they belong, particularly when frontline AbbyPD officers apprehend suspects who breach the conditions of their release.

Abbotsford PD says its patrol members were conducting proactive patrols along Whatcom Road Wednesday (Jan. 22) when they observed a suspicious vehicle. Upon stopping the motorist, police conducted a check and discovered the male driver had violated the terms of his release agreement and conditions.

Police also located a firearm and ammunition in the vehicle at the time of his arrest.

The Abbotsford PD file for this incident is 2025-3141.

“Proactive policing is essential for ensuring public safety,” AbbyPD said.

Another way in which AbbyPD says it is working to protect the community is its Project Agent program, an initiative where AbbyPD officers and operational support officers act as authorized persons on behalf of businesses to ensure unwanted individuals aren’t trespassing. According to AbbyPD Deputy Chief Constable Dan Culbertson, Project Agency currently has 109 business partners registered and over 14,000 property checks were completed in 2024.
