MISSION — Mounties in Mission say a 69-year-old female passenger was pronounced deceased after a single-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 15) in Durieu, a community northeast of Mission.

According to a statement from police, Mission RCMP were called to a single-vehicle crash on Sylvester Road near Cascade Ridge Drive Wednesday at about 4:30 p.m. Officers arrived and learned that a grey Mitsubishi Outlander had veered off the roadway and collided with a utility pole.

Police say first responders worked to extricate the female passenger, who was unconscious and had sustained serious injuries. Despite their best efforts, the 69-year-old woman died at the scene. The male driver of the vehicle sustained only minor injuries and was transported to hospital but has since been released.
