CHILLIWACK — Former District Parent Advisory Council chair Katie Bartel says she’s filed paperwork to run in the upcoming by-election for a vacant seat on the Chilliwack Board of Education.

Bartel posted on social media today that she turned in her nomination paperwork at Chilliwack City Hall Wednesday morning.

“The nomination papers are in! I officially dropped them off this morning!” Bartel said. “Let’s build a stronger, brighter Chilliwack school system where students thrive, teachers are empowered, and parents feel confident in their children’s education and well-being.”

The only other candidate in the race at this point is former Chilliwack MLA Laurie Throness, who continues to stress academic achievement in his campaign.

“If you agree that the Chilliwack School Board needs to shift its focus back toward academic excellence, vote for me on March 1,” Throness posted in a video reel on January 8.
