Update: Fire erupts at poultry facility in Chilliwack, reportedly engulfing 2 barns

Update 8:45 a.m. Wednesday: While the scope of the fire has greatly diminished, smoke continues to emanate from the farm on Blackburn Road as of 8:35 a.m. Firefighters remain on scene due to the amount of apparent flames still visible from Blackburn Road. Multiple fire units and RCMP vehicles remain on scene. A truck usually assigned to a fire investigator is located near the front yard of the home.

According to scanner traffic during the incident, two chicken barns fully engulfed in flames were reportedly unoccupied by chickens or other livestock, but this has not been officially confirmed by the Chilliwack Fire Department.

Firefighters worked diligently to protect other barns on the property from burning.

A witness says two chicken barns are burning, sending large plumes of smoke into the air. The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. and is located at a facility on Blackburn Road, north of Keith Wilson Road.

There are at least 10 emergency vehicles on the scene. At least six fire halls have been called to the scene. An excavator is also being brought in to assist with the firefight.
