MISSION — The City of Mission has issued a statement saying that some residents may experience an unusual taste or odd smell in their drinking water.

In a statement from the municipality Monday (Jan. 13), Abbotsford Mission Water and Sewer Services says Mission residents may notice some discolouration, along with an unusual taste or odour, in their drinking water from the Cannell Lake water supply.

The city insists municipal water remains safe to drink and is not a health concern.

At this time, the majority of Mission residents are receiving drinking water from Cannell Lake while maintenance activities are underway.

The city says water from this source is regularly sampled and tested, while water quality samples continue to meet provincial water quality regulations.

As a potential solution in the interim, a carbon filter, such as those from Brita Canada or similar device, may alleviate the smell and taste.

Abbotsford Mission Water and Sewer Services supplies municipal water to Abbotsford, Mission and a small part of the Fraser Valley Regional District. For additional information regarding Abbotsford and Mission’s water quality, please visit ourwatermatters.ca.

Residents who are impacted may notify the City of Mission at 604-820-3761 of any water quality issues.
