CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Chief Andrew Brown says a fire over the weekend has destroyed a vacant home on First Avenue.

According to a statement from Chief Brown, Chilliwack firefighters were dispatched for a house fire on First Avenue on Saturday, Nov. 30 at roughly 11 a.m.

Firefighters from Halls 1 and 4 arrived and observed heavy smoke and flames emanating from multiple areas of the structure. Brown says the building was vacant at the time of the fire. Firefighters who arrived first on scene established a defensive fire attack while they secured a water supply to bring the fire under control. The location of the fire and structural damage to the building hindered the work of firefighters, Brown said. An excavator was brought in to assist in safely accessing and extinguishing the fire.

Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock provided a picture of the demolished home to Fraser Valley Today. The home is believed to be 46197 First Avenue.
