Gallery 7’s holiday themed “Parfumerie”: A heartwarming comedy set for Abbotsford run

ABBOTSFORD – An executive with the Gallery 7 Theatre is characterizing their forthcoming romantic comedy as a “gem of a play” with a holiday theme and a time-tested happy ending.

Managing Artistic Director, Ken Hildebrandt says Parfumerie, adapted from a Hungarian play by Miklos Laszlo, has “all the feels” viewers are looking for in their holiday entertainment.

“I’ve waited a long time to bring this heartwarming and funny play to our stage,” said Hildebrand.

“Audiences can expect a theatre experience filled with just the right balance of drama, comedy and good ‘ole fashioned holiday cheer.”

Set in Budapest, Hungary during the late 1930s, the play surrounds a factory and retail store worker involved in the manufacturing and selling of soaps and perfumes who is suddenly fired during the holidays.

His life is thrown into chaos when he discovers the stranger he’s been corresponding with by mail is a co-worker he constantly fights with.

“It’s filled with dramatic irony, often sharing with the audience what the characters have yet to discover, thus adding to the humour of each bumbling moment,” director Sarah Green explains.

Parfumerie opens at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium on South Fraser Way on Dec. 13

The two-hour production for ages 14 and up will have evening shows on the 13th and 14th and will run from Dec. 17 to 21, with start times at 7:30 p.m.

Two matinees will take place on Dec. 14 and 21 at 2 p.m.

Tickets can be found on Gallery 7’s website or by calling 604-504-5940.
