Fire engulfs Fairfield Island home in Chilliwack near the Fraser River
CHILLIWACK — A fire broke out early Friday morning (Aug. 26), engulfing a home in the 10600 block of Young Road in the Fairfield Island area of Chilliwack near the Fraser River.
The Chilliwack Fire Department responded to the fire at 2:45 a.m. at the rural home near the northern end of Young Road.
The single-family home with a typical driveway was significantly charred. The front end of what appeared to be a Ford SUV was also burned and heavily damaged from the blaze. A nearby trailer in close proximity to the home appeared unscathed. The fire does not appear to have spread to any neighbouring homes or property.
According to a mid-morning press release from the Chilliwack Fire Department, over 20 firefighters from Hall No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 responded to the scene. Upon arrival they witnessed a detached carport fully engulfed in fire and flames were seen spreading aggressively into the home.
