ORIGINAL STORY – Nov.15, 2024:

HOPE – Both lanes of Highway 7 near Hope were closed overnight after a rockslide on Thursday, according to DriveBC.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says that “large rocks” tumbled onto the road between Haig Scale and Seventh-day Adventist Youth Camp Road.

In a social media post on Friday afternoon, work crews reported that a geotechnical assessment and cleanup were taking place.

“No estimated reopening time. Assessment in progress,” crews said in an update after 1 p.m. Friday.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the geotechnical assessment analyzes the slope of nearby hills to ensure clean-up crews can clear the highway safely.

The crown agency said downed hydro lines downed  and “significant pavement damage” has hampered efforts to reopen the road.

Highway 1 through Hope is the recommended alternative for drivers, according to the province.
